Be A Wise Woman (Morning)

1 Peter 3:5-6a For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord,

At the beginning of their marriage, her husband told Esther about his work: a taxi driver. He told this because Esther was an assistant manager in her company, with a huge margin between her wage and his earnings. But Esther put it away. Her husband’s job became a laughing stock at her office. Her colleagues always laughed at him and asked her why she, an excellent woman with a bright future married him, a man with no future? She just smiled without answering their questions. She understands his struggles to help her raise their kids and make ends meet. She appreciates it.

One day, after a long day of work, her husband picked her up. Her colleagues said ill behind her back about her husband, but she ignored them all. At home, after their children fell asleep he asked her, why she respect him even with his financial condition. With her current status, she may easily rebel against his authority but instead, she put herself voluntarily under his authority. Finally, she told him a secret: I love you just as like the church loves Jesus. And I will obey you just as the church obeys Jesus.

Based on the illustration above, we are reminded that how wives should be around their husbands. Because in this modern times, many wives only obeyed their husbands if their husbands were wealthy or possess high status and influence. Those wives obey their husbands’ wealth. God put husbands as to the leader and priest of their respective family not without a reason. Wives must obey their husbands just like the church obeys Jesus as its groom. As his helper comparable to him. Flesh from his flesh and blood from his blood. This means, if wives could understand their position in the family, and act wisely to it, God will make their family a happy and blessed family.

1. If you are a wife, have you already respected your husband?
2. In your opinion, why don’t some wives respect their husbands’ authority?
3. What will you do to better play your role and responsibility in your family?

‘We are grateful for Your rhema O God, so through it, we may learn more about our roles and responsibilities in our family. Guide and lead us, so our speech and our behaviors may align with Your will. Bless us so our marriage and relationship will go along with Your plan. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.”
