Fast Properly (Morning)

TODAY’S RHEMA

Matthew 6:17-18 “But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, “so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Covid-19 pandemic not only affects our daily lives but spiritual lives as well. Many Christians cannot keep up with its pressure and collapse. Jeremy is one of them. When his cell group leader asked him and another cell group members to fast and pray, he did it. His motive was: to make him look better spiritually. It was an easy task, just 21 days of fasting and praying, not the usual 40 and 50 days. It would be easy he thought to himself.

Three weeks later, his cell group leader wanted his members to share their stories. Jeremy’s acquaintances shared many stories about their fasting experience. When it’s time for him to share his own, he answered that he didn’t have any. After their weekly meeting, his cell group leader asked him for a moment and told him what’s wrong with his fasting method and purpose. Fasting without proper motivation is no different than a weight loss diet. Jeremy finally learned from his mistake and asked for another chance which gladly his cell group leader gave.

There’s a difference between fasting and a mere weight loss diet. When we are fasting we try to crucify our flesh. We try to weaken our desires and strengthen our spiritual lives. Commit yourself to prayers and fasting properly, and by that, a new dimension of the spiritual realm would be opened. Through our fasting and prayers, His power would be manifested. Set our motivation and goal right, so we can catch this perfect momentum of spiritual breakthrough.
