Fasting but Experience Nothing (Noon)

Isaiah 58:3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?’ “In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, And exploit all your laborers.

Just after the celebration of Easter, Danny’s church commences the movement of fasting prayer. Unlike past years, Danny’s was not interested to take part. To him, there is nothing special that happened in his life. When his father asked him to join his family too fast, he refused without telling them the reason. Listened to him, his dad replied “Ded, I know that you have not been serious in fasting and prayer. You sleep till the end of the day. You often break your fast before time because you were hungry. Therefore, it is unsurprising that you don’t experience anything from it”. Danny could only smile shyly, “Come, let us fast and pray together again this year. Try to be serious” his dad asked him. Danny finally agrees to take part in the fasting prayer and promise in his heart that he will do it earnestly.

When we are in a fasting prayer, most of us who put so much hope in it, become disappointed if there is nothing happened out of our fasting prayer. We often failed to recognize ourselves, have we properly fasted and prayed, or do we have other intentions on commencing it. The people of Israel experienced the exact thing, they fasted for years, but God didn’t notice. God disregarded their prayers. Their prayers for help and miracles weren’t answered. It wasn’t even having any impact spiritually. Therefore, they were reluctant to fast.

In contrast, we will be excited to fast with proper motivation. Fasting means that we are drawing ourselves closer dan look for God’s face. We show him our love and gratitude. Humbly, we search for ourselves and restore what is broken in God’s eye. We may not experience anything, but we will not be disappointed, because we will have a close and exceptional relationship with God. This is an actual extraordinary momentum that may draw the power of God closer to our life because those who are close to God will be imparted with His anointing and power.

Don’t let the feeling of EMPTINESS keep you away from fasting.

1. What is your motivation in conducting fasting prayers?
2. What do you think is the cause of an empty and hopeless fasting prayer?
3. How do you conquer your reluctance if you haven’t experienced special things while fasting and praying?

“Father, we pray for our current 21 days movement. The holy spirit will give us more faith and make it successful, so we will experience a faith that improves the spirit. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen”.
