1 John 1:5-10

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness

Little Johnny and his older sister Sally visited their grandparent’s farm. There little Johnny was given a slingshot by his grandfather for him to play with. Little Johnny trained himself again and again but found no improvement whatsoever, whether it’s accuracy or else. He walked back to his grandparent’s home for dinner when suddenly he saw it. A priced goose belongs to his grandmother. Still upset because of his slow progress, he aimed his slingshot at the unexpected and unprepared goose. The pebble hit its target, bullseye. The goose lying motionless. Dead. Little Johnny, shocked and felt remorseful, bury “the evidence and the victim” under a pile of logs and twigs.

Sally saw the entire scene uttered no words. After dinner, their grandmother asked Sally: “Sally would you be so kind as to help me with the dishes?” Instead, she said: “Granny, Johnny said he wanted to help you with the dishes” Sally then whispered into Johnny’s ear: “I know about the goose” His face turned to paper white and he froze. Johnny helped his grandmother with the dishes. The next day, when Johnny was about to go fishing with her grandfather, again Sally murmured something: goose. Instead of him went fishing and Sally helped with house chores, he now must help his grandmother and let Sally go fishing. Couldn’t hold up any longer little Johnny gather his courage up and knell before his grandmother. He was crying and asked for her forgiveness. He confessed everything to the details where he buried her grandmother’s priced goose. His grandmother just sitting there, listened, and after his confession hugged little Johnny, and said softly: “I already knew everything, my dear. I saw it through my window that day. I forgive you. It’s okay. My only regret is: what took you so long? Why you let Sally used you?”

We are just like little Johnny. We try our best to hide our sins from Him. All-knowing and omniscience LORD. Convinced ourselves: no one is watching therefore nothing is happening. We did successfully lied to others. But we cannot deny what was happening. We lost our inner peace because when we lied, the devil snatched it away from our hearts along with “happiness” and left behind “guilt and anxiety” he did all of this to intimidate us, to separate us further from God’s grace and salvation. Only if we confess our misdeed and repent, only then God will show His mercy and frees us. If somehow we still hide “dead goose” inside of our hearts, God kindly says through His apostle:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins(1 John 1:9a)… it’s a certain AMEN. Do not let the devil take advantage of us. Come, kneels, and repent. And then feel it, His West Winds of Holy Spirit would come upon us and blow our sins away, as far as East from West.

When we willingly CONFESS OUR SINS and REPENT, then prophetic WINDS OF FORGIVENESS would blow upon us.

  1. What do you feel when you hide some misdeeds or mistakes?
  2. How did that affect your life?
  3. What’s your commitment after knowing that only through God’s mercy, your life could be restored?

“Jesus our LORD, we are truly grateful, for all this kindness and generosity You pour down to our lives. Forgive us o LORD and show us mercy, teach us to walk in Your path and only by Your everlasting guidance, lead us with Your light and deliver us from evil. We are grateful. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen .”
