Right Attitude Towards Pruning (Morning)

TODAY’S RHEMA

Ecclesiastes 11:6 In the morning sow your seed, And in the evening do not withhold your hand; For you do not know which will prosper, Either this or that, Or whether both alike will be good.

Pruning is essential when you deal with viticulture. It enhances growth and optimizes the yield. To give you some glimpse into pruning, this how it’s done. First, growers would nip off some of the buds on the remaining canes to concentrate the plant’s efforts into sprouting fewer shoots. This is not only benefits the grape but also the growers as well, to better manage the vineyard.

Along this season, the growers would then trim, cut, and dispose of unnecessary twigs and branches. From the grapevines’ point of view, this process is not only painful but also very uncomfortable. But the growers have something in mind. They never do something without thinking about it thoroughly. The result is evident, the grapevines would grow noticeably bushier and bear more fruits. It also pleases the eyes and more manageable to harvest than those without pruning.

Now imagine if the growers never bother to prune their grapevine. It will grow wild, harder to manage, and has no uniform taste. Unsuitable for winemaking, the whole vineyard will go to waste. In His parable, Jesus imagined Himself as the true vine, we are the branches. He prunes us to enhance our growth and maximize our yield. Now it’s our turn to respond with a correct response? Are you willing to let Him prune you? Or you will rebel against Him? But before you answer, here’s an insight: He prunes us because He cares about our well-being and life. Ask for Holy Spirit’s help to see His plans. If you can see His plans as it is, you’ll be more appreciative about what He does to your life.

REFLECTION

Our RESPONSE in pruning time DETERMINES whether the pruning would be SUCCESSFUL or FAILED.

APPLICATIONS

1. What makes you fail to respond to His pruning process?
2. Why our response is so important to determine whether our pruning process would be successful or not?
3. What will you do to respond to His pruning process?

TODAY’S PRAYER

“Father, we believe that You only want the best for our lives. Touch our hearts and make them easy to shape. Teach us to better respond to Your pruning process, and enable our lives to be more fruitful in faith. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.”
