Sin Brings Consequences and Defeat in the Future
AUGUST 21, 2021
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the [a]gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Bill Campbell, the owner of Campbell’s Equipment & Supply in San Luis Obispo, California, was surprised to find a letter with $10 in it. The money was from a customer who bought a refrigerator from his company in 1963. The letter read, “I paid $10 less than I should have. When the seller called, I didn’t want to pay that $10. I suffered for years because of this $10. So here it is. the money, thank you.” Campbell, whose father started the business in 1939, only vaguely remembers hearing the story. He said, “The $10 has been removed from the books, but we framed it and hung it on the office wall, as a warning of the consequences of one mistake.”
When the Israelites attacked and defeated Jericho, there was a man named Achan who did something forbidden by God. That is taking the booty because all of it will be reserved for the Lord. Achan’s eyes glazed over at the beautiful robe, two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of gold, so he took them and hid them. Because of his sin, the victory of the Israelites and Joshua was tarnished. It is a sin that must be paid very dearly (Joshua 22:20).
Today God reminds us again, every temptation that brings sin will only bring very heavy consequences and suffocating defeat ahead. Therefore, let’s learn to maintain holiness in life and stay away from sinful acts. Because holiness is a weapon that never fails to give us victory and make us invincible.
Sin is VERY tempting, but NOT WORTH compared to the BAD CONSEQUENCES and DEFEAT we will receive in the future.
1. Have you ever felt strongly tempted to commit a sinful act?
2. What bad consequences and defeats have you experienced when you indulged in the temptations of sin?
3. What is your commitment to resisting temptations of sin and continuing to maintain holiness?
“Father, we are well aware of the many temptations of sin all around us. Strengthen and strengthen our hearts, that we may endure in holiness. Thank you, Father, may there be no regrets due to sin until the end of our lives. In the name of the Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen.”
