Stay Focused on God’s Promises (Morning)
TODAY’S FOOD FOR THE SOUL
Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
December 7th, 1988, Armenia, USSR. A 6.8 magnitude earthquake devastated northern Armenia. Also known as the Spitak earthquake, it killed 25.000 to 50.000 people and injured 130.000 more. Many buildings were flattened including a school building. In this catastrophic event, many parents frantically searched for their children but to no avail. One man stood up in particular because he dug up continuously for two days straight. At first, bystanders just shrugged him or told him it was useless, but it came to deaf ears. He dug up and dug up, then some people took pity, started to help him.
His resolution bore fruit. All neighborhood started to help him and then a faint voice emerged from the rubbles. “Dad?” the man like a possessed man. When the fire brigade helped get rid of the bigger rubbles, there he was! Dirty, hungry but overall just fine. The man hugged his son. The child turned to his classmates and said proudly ‘What I told you! My father would come to save us, am I right? He promised that he will always be by my side’
Do we have this kid’s heart? When we face impossibility, do we still believe that Our Father would come and help us out? Many of us still hesitant, still skeptical, still let the world puts limit on ourselves, still impatient and push His way around. If somehow, we are waiting long enough and His promise still out of reach, keep praying and keep His word tightly. If an earthly father could keep his promise, what makes you think that our heavenly Father could not keep His part of the covenant?
STAY FOCUSED ON GOD’S PROMISE of the Year of Glory.
1. What did you do while waiting for His promise to be fulfilled?
2. In your opinion, why do we need to brace our hearts while looking at His promise?
3. What are you going to do to start it again and brace your heart?
“Father, I am grateful because You give me Your words and promises. Forgive me if I still doubt. Teach me how to embrace Your promises and be faithful in Your way. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.”
