The Main Reason We Lose Confidence (Morning)

FOOD FOR THE SOUL

Numbers 13:1-33

RHEMA

Numbers 13:33 There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

Enrolling Junior High School, Lita no longer lives with her parents. She lives in her relative’s house because it is close to her new school. Previously she lived in the village, and she feels inferior. She feels she is less beautiful, not rich, and not very smart. This feeling makes her not confident when she is with her school friends. Several friends speak negatively about her and tease her because she speaks with an accent. She does not dare to take part in activities at school and always is hesitant to do everything. She does not believe in herself until she enters the university, so she often withdraws from friends.

The influence of negative speech is so strong that the Israelites were “poisoned” by the words of the spies. Of the 12 men whom Moses sent to spy out the land of Canaan, except for Joshua and Caleb, the other ten spies stated that there were giants there who were so strong that they made the Israelites just like grasshoppers. Small, weak, and impossible to win. Maybe many of us live from what people say. Our ears are so sensitive to what other people say about us. Especially if the comments are negative, we will continue to do so and eventually become insecure. What’s more, we can hate ourselves for always comparing with other people who we think are greater.

The main cause we lose self-confidence is the broken self-image. A person’s self-image can be broken by the words and judgments of others. Therefore, starting today, be selective in listening to the words around us. And vice versa, be careful in saying something to others. Only LISTEN and SAY encouraging words that can bring peace and build self-confidence. Because when we lose confidence, makes us fail to achieve what God has promised in our lives. By filtering what enters our ears and leaves our mouths, our self-image will be restored and we will have divine confidence that comes from God.
